LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Before exploring our site, we want to first take a moment to acknowledge that the land we are situated on is the traditional territory of many nations.

Our studio is located on the Territory of the Mississaugas, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Anishinabewaki, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendake - Nionwntsio. It is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Anishinabeg and Haudenosaunee allied nations to peaceably share and care for the lands around the Great Lakes. It is covered by Treaty 13 (1805) and its founding language is Mississauga/ Eastern Anishinaabe (Ojibwa).

As artists and makers who’s work enters homes across “Canada”, we feel a duty to reflect on the ways in which our art practice and business further upholds colonial structures and systems - a system we all continue to participate in.

We would love to brainstorm with anyone and/or other local small businesses / artists/ makers who would be interested in exploring what it might mean and look like for our makings and businesses to challenge some of these colonial doctrines of being - Can we reimagine parts our artistic practices and businesses to ones that do not perpetuate the refusal of indigenous existence? What might this look like - how can we integrate this into our business structure and our artistic makings ?

Please email us with any thoughts, feelings / reflections.
